Festival of Lights · 19 November 2026
Thailand's most beautiful festival. Releasing negative feelings into the water and sky on the full moon of the 12th lunar month.
Loi Krathong falls on the full moon of the 12th lunar month — 19 November 2026. The festival is about releasing: bad luck, past mistakes, and difficult emotions are symbolically sent away on floating vessels (krathongs) or paper lanterns. It is one of the most visually spectacular nights of the year in Thailand.
Banana-leaf and flower vessels released onto rivers and canals to let go of bad luck. Best locations in Bangkok: Chao Phraya riverfront, Lumpini Park lake, Benjakiti Park.
Thousands of paper lanterns released simultaneously in Chiang Mai, turning the sky golden. The Maejo University mass release requires advance booking — often months ahead.
